and his second, Chileab , of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur ;
성경에는 굉장한 미남으로 기록되었다.
Now in all Israel there was no one to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty. From the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no defect in him.

28 Absalom commanded his servants, saying, “Mark now, when Amnon ’s heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!”
29 The servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and every man got up on his mule, and fled.

Joab (Davids General) 의 주선으로 돌아오기는 하였으나,
직접 대면하여 용서와 회복의 과정을 겪지는 못했다.
But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihur, king of Geshur . David mourned for his son every day.
1 Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king’s heart was toward Absalom .
2 Joab sent to Tekoa, and brought a wise woman from there, and said to her, “Please act like a mourner, and put on mourning clothing, please, and don’t anoint yourself with oil, but be as a woman who has mourned a long time for the dead.
3 Go in to the king, and speak like this to him.” So Joab put the words in her mouth.
24 The king said, “Let him return to his own house, but let him not see my face.” So Absalom returned to his own house, and didn’t see the king’s face.
25 Now in all Israel there was no one to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty. From the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no defect in him.
26 When he cut the hair of his head (now it was at every year’s end that he cut it; because it was heavy on him, therefore he cut it); he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels, after the king’s weight.
27 Three sons were born to Absalom , and one daughter, whose name was Tamar. She was a woman with a beautiful face.

결국 그 과정 속에서 압살롬은 다시 반란을 일으키게 된다. 거의 다윗을 잡기 직전까지 갔었으나, 결국 놓치게 되고 싸움중에 나무에 달려 죽게 된다.
7 At the end of forty years, Absalom said to the king, “Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to Yahweh, in Hebron.
8 For your servant vowed a vow while I stayed at Geshur in Syria, saying, ‘If Yahweh shall indeed bring me again to Jerusalem , then I will serve Yahweh.’ ”
9 The king said to him, “Go in peace.” So he arose, and went to Hebron.
10 But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel , saying, “As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, ‘Absalom is king in Hebron!’ ”
11 Two hundred men went with Absalom out of Jerusalem , who were invited, and went in their simplicity; and they didn’t know anything.
12 Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David ’s counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.
6 So the people went out into the field against Israel ; and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim .
7 The people of Israel were struck there before David ’s servants, and there was a great slaughter there that day of twenty thousand men.
8 For the battle was there spread over the surface of all the country, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
9 Absalom happened to meet David ’s servants. Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the sky and earth; and the mule that was under him went on.
10 A certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, “Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.”
11 Joab said to the man who told him, “Behold, you saw it, and why didn’t you strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten pieces of silver, and a sash.”
12 The man said to Joab, “Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I still wouldn’t stretch out my hand against the king’s son; for in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, ‘Beware that no one touch the young man Absalom .’
13 Otherwise if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hidden from the king), then you yourself would have set yourself against me.”
14 Then Joab said, “I’m not going to wait like this with you.” He took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom , while he was yet alive in the middle of the oak.
15 Ten young men who bore Joab’s armor surrounded and struck Absalom , and killed him.
