마게도냐(Macedonia) 는 그리스 반도 북쪽 지역을 의미한다. 지금의 북마케도니아 지역과 유사하다.
사도 바울 이 유럽으로 선교한 첫 지역이었다.
바울은 아시아 지역으로 선교를 하려 하였으나 성령께서 그것을 막으시고 마게도냐 사람들의 환상을 보고 이지역을 시작으로 유럽 선교를 시작했다.
6 When they had gone through the region of Phrygia and Galatia , they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.
7 When they had come opposite Mysia , they tried to go into Bithynia , but the Spirit didn’t allow them.
8 9 A vision appeared to Paul in the night. There was a man of Macedonia standing, begging him, and saying, “Come over into Macedonia and help us.”
10 When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go out to Macedonia , concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the Good News to them.
이 지역의 성도들은 예루살렘 교회의 성도를 위해 헌금했다.
For it has been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are at Jerusalem .
1 Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the assemblies of Macedonia ,
2 how in much proof of affliction, the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their generosity.
3 For according to their power, I testify, yes and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord,
4 begging us with much entreaty to receive this grace and the fellowship in the service to the saints.
5 This was not as we had expected, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.
또한, 바울의 사역을 위해서도 헌금했다.
You yourselves also know, you Philippians, that in the beginning of the Good News, when I departed from Macedonia , no assembly shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you only.
실라와 디모데가 이곳에서 부터 내려왔다.
But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia , Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.
