산헤립(Sennacherib) 은
Assyria 의 왕이며,
Esarhaddon 의 아버지이다.
36 37 As he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat . Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.
그는 당시
Babylon 의
므로닥발라단 과 전쟁을 벌이고 있었는데, 당시 애굽과 유다왕국이 바벨론의 편을 들자 유다 왕국을 침공했다.
당시 유다 왕국의 왕은
히스기야 였다.
Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah , and took them.
당시 산헤립의 강력한 침공 앞에 히스기야는 처음에는 막대한 배상금을 지불하였지만, 그들의 요구를 감상할 수 없었고, 산헤립은 전적인 항복을 요구하며 대대적인 침공을 감행했다.
14 Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish , saying, “I have offended you. Return from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15 Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in Yahweh’s house, and in the treasures of the king’s house.
16 At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of Yahweh’s temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria .
17 The king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem . They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
이 때에 히스기야의 기도를 통해 하나님은 산헤립 군대를 치셔 18만 5천명의 군사가 죽고 산헤립은 패하게 된다.
33 He will return the same way that he came, and he will not come to this city,’ says Yahweh.
34 ‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David ’s sake.’ ”
35 That night, Yahweh’s angel went out, and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
이후 산헤립은 본국으로 돌아갔는데, 자신들의 신전에서 아들들에게 살해되었다.
