시날(Shinar) 은 티그리스 강과 유프라테스 사이에 있는 평지이다. 훗날 이곳이
Babylon 의 주요 지역이 된다.
최초
Nimrod 이 이 지역에 터를 잡았다.
9 He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh. Therefore it is said, “like Nimrod , a mighty hunter before Yahweh”.
10 바벨탑 사건 이 일어난 곳도 이지역이다.
2 As they traveled from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar , and they lived there.
3 They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.
4 They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”
5 Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.
6 Yahweh said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.
7 Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
8 So Yahweh scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.

엘람 과 여러 국가간의 전쟁이 있었는데, 이 때 시날을 다스리던 왕
Amraphel 이 아브라함의 조카 롯을 잡아간다.
1 2 3 All these joined together in the valley of Siddim (also called the Salt Sea).
4 They served Chedorlaomer for twelve years, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came, and the kings who were with him, and struck the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim ,
6 and the Horites in their Mount Seir , to El Paran, which is by the wilderness.
7 They returned, and came to En Mishpat (also called Kadesh ), and struck all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites , that lived in Hazazon Tamar.
8 The king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah , the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (also called Zoar ) went out; and they set the battle in array against them in the valley of Siddim
9 10 Now the valley of Siddim was full of tar pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and some fell there. Those who remained fled to the hills.
11 They took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and went their way.
12 They took Lot , Abram’s brother’s son, who lived in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
여호수사 시기에
아간 이 재물을 빼돌렸는데, 그 때 시날에서 만들어진 아름다운 외투가 포함되어있다.
When I saw among the plunder a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”
이후, 성경에서에 다음과 같이 등장한다.
It will happen in that day that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria , from Egypt , from Pathros , from Cush , from Elam, from Shinar , from Hamath , and from the islands of the sea.
The Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god. He brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
He said to me, “To build her a house in the land of Shinar . When it is prepared, she will be set there in her own place.”
