📌Haman

Person

Haman is a figure who attempted to exterminate the Hebrews, appearing in Esther (Bible).

In the Bible, he is recorded as an "Agagite," which means a descendant of Agag, the king of Amalek who waged war during the reign of Saul (King).

Esther 3:1After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite and advanced him and set his seat above all the officials who were with him.
1 Samuel 15:8And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive and devoted to destruction all the people with the edge of the sword.1 Samuel 15:9But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves and the lambs and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them. All that was despised and worthless they devoted to destruction.

He was a favored official of King Ahasuerus (Xerxes I). Nevertheless, he harbored resentment towards Mordecai for not bowing down to him, and eventually devised a plot to exterminate not only Mordecai but the entire Hebrew people.

This was overturned by the fasting and courageous decision of Queen Esther and Mordecai, resulting in Haman's family being destroyed instead, and the Hebrew people receiving great salvation.
