네게브(Negeb) '는 히브리어로 남쪽을 의미하는데, 이스라엘 영토 가장 아래쪽 황량한 사막지대를 말한다.
네겝 이라고도 불리웠다.

1 Abram went up out of Egypt —he, his wife, all that he had, and Lot with him—into the South.
2 Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
3 He went on his journeys from the South as far as Bethel , to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai ,
Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar .
Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he lived in the land of the South.
Moses 가 가나안 땅 정탐을 위해 열두명을 보낼 때 네게브를 통해 침투시켰다.
Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, “Go up this way by the South, and go up into the hill country.
They went up by the South, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt .)
네겝 으로도 되어있는데, 아래 본문에서도 사막이라는 의미로 사용된 것으로 볼 수 있다.
